Misvisende Smedegaard

Kære Nils Smedegaard Andersen,

Den 24. oktober 2013 udsendte du en pressemeddelelse, hvor du brugte ordet misvisende om en artikel i Berlingske, efter at vi havde skrevet, at A.P. Møller – Mærsk var klar til at sælge Dansk Supermarked.

Artiklen byggede på et interview med dig i månedsmagasinet Berlingske Business. Her svarede du på spørgsmålet om salg af Danske Bank og Dansk Supermarked:

»Danske Bank er en langsigtet investering, som vi vil blive i, men det er ikke en del af kerneforretningen. Og så har vi en række andre virksomheder, som vi har sagt, at vi betragter som investeringer, og dem vil vi sælge, hvis der er en anden, bedre ejer, og vi kan finde nogle bedre konstruktioner.«

Dansk Supermarked blev ikke sidestillet med Danske Bank, hvilket vi tolkede, som om, at A.P. Møller – Mærsk nu var klar til at sælge Dansk Supermarked.

Du havde fået artiklen til gennemsyn, og du havde ikke alene godkendt citatet, men også læst hele artiklen. Du kunne med andre ord tydeligt se, i hvilken sammenhæng citatet blev bragt.

Efterfølgende forsøgte vi gentagne gange at komme i dialog, om vores tolkning var korrekt. Din kommunikationsafdeling tog helt øjensynligt ikke vores henvendelse alvorligt. I hvert fald lykkedes det os ikke at komme i en ny dialog med dig.

I stedet kunne vi efter offentliggørelsen af artiklen i Berlingske, læse i andre medier, at A.P. Møller – Mærsk havde udsendt en pressemeddelelse, hvor Berlingskes artikel blev kaldt misvisende. For læsernes skyld, får de her afsnittet i sin fulde længde:

“Dagens artikel i Berlingske Tidende er således misvisende, idet der ikke – som det fremgår af avisen – er tale om ændringer eller nye meldinger i forhold til Gruppens opbakning til Dansk Supermarked. Det fremgår således senest af Gruppens halvårsregnskab, det blev gentaget på Capital Markets Days, at der ikke er tale om noget kursskifte og det har vi naturligvis understreget overfor Berlingske forud for offentliggørelsen i dag.”

Lad mig blot minde om, at både du personligt og repræsentanter for A.P. Møller – Mærsk tidligere har sagt klart nej, når der blev spurgt til, om Dansk Supermarked er til salg.

Det skete blandt andet i januar 2012 i en kommentar til en analyse, konsulentfirmaet McKinsey havde udarbejdet for A.P. Møller – Mærsk.

McKinsey anbefalede salg af Danske Bank og Dansk Supermarked, men den gang sagde en talsmand:

“Både vores topchef og formand har sagt, at det ikke er en del af vores strategi….vi fastholder vores langsigtede ejerskab i Danske Bank og Dansk Supermarked.”

I august i år sagde du selv klart nej til Børsen TV, da du blev spurgt, om de to selskaber var til salg.

Det nye i interviewet med månedsmagasinet Berlingske Business er, at du netop ikke afviste et salg af Dansk Supermarked, men alene afviste et salg af Danske Bank.

Jeg vil gerne spørge dig, hvorfor skulle Berlingskes artikel kaldes misvisende, når sandheden i dag er, at A.P. Møller – Mærsk har solgt det meste af sin ejerandel i Dansk Supermarked. Er det part of the game i dansk topledelse, at man gerne ofrer mediernes troværdighed i egen interesse.

Det er måske en naiv forestilling, men jeg håber virkelig ikke, at dette kommer til at danne skole i toppen af dansk erhvervsliv.

Jeg hører alt for ofte klagesange fra beslutningstagere, at mediernes troværdighed kan ligge et lille sted, og at vi ikke har tilstrækkelig indsigt i erhvervslivets forhold. Lad mig slå fast, at vores troværdighed bygger på, at vi kan stole på, hvad beslutningstagere siger og gør, at der er sammenhæng mellem det, der bliver sagt, og det, som sker.

I den senere tid har vi set, hvordan ministre i regeringen må træde tilbage, fordi de bevægede sig på den forkerte side af sandheden. Der er naturligvis anderledes krav til direktører, men helt ærligt, det er ikke klædeligt at kalde en artikel misvisende, når I vidste, at den var korrekt.

    Hvor er det bare typisk: Så snart en journalist føler sig tilsidesat, kommer en sådan ovenstående artikel til verden.
    I kan synes og mene hvad i vil om Christiansborg og politikerne – dér har i til dels ret, og de må og skal som “folkets repræsentanter” stille op, oplysende og afklarende, MEN: Når det kommer til en privat virksomhed, så skal de IKKE stå skoleret og til regnskab overfor jer, og ej heller åbent fremlægge deres strategier, blot fordi I spørger ind til dem.
    OG MÅ DET FORBLIVE SÅDAN!!! Det er IKKE DK’s journalist-stand, som driver dansk erhvervsliv. Punktum.

    Kære Christopher,
    En børsnoteret virksomhed har pligt til at udvise særlig omhyggelighed med de informationer, der udsendes. En børsnoteret virksomhed skal med andre ord kommunikere troværdigt. Det handler ikke om, at journalister og redaktører vil drive private virksomheder, men om at fungere som mellemled mellem en virksomhed og de tusindvis af interessenter, som er knyttet til virksomheden, herunder aktionærerne.

    Hverken politikere, journalister eller såkaldte eksperter evner at starte, drive eller sælge en virksomhed. Det kan I trygt overlade til nogen der har evner til dette. I det hele taget skal vi være godt tilfredse med folk af Smedegård Andersens kaliber, der står i spidsen for dansk erhvervsliv. Tak til dem.

    En god journalist skal vel altid kunne være kritisk. Man kan jo være kritisk men samtidig forstå at en erhvervsleder muligvis har mange kompetencer…

    Det der i den her sag er mest opsigtsvækkende er at topchefen i A.P. Møller-Mærsk tilsyneladende åbent fremmer diskrimination på basis af nationalitet. Det burde ikke være i orden at gøre det. Når Mærsk ansætter medarbejdere eller køber/sælger ydelser, er der så også positiv diskrimination af danskere her?

    En direktør skal jo skabe værdi for aktionærerne. Det gør man ikke gennem at støtte “danske interesser” eller sociale hensyn.
    Eller – rettere sagt – det er noget som man i visse danske virksomheder har misforstået. Det er hverken legitimit eller langsigtet.

    Jeg kan ikke sige i hvilken grad det er Smedegaard som står for disse holdninger: visse større investorer har evt. også en rolle.
    Der er dog også andre beslutninger i selskabet som virker uhensigtsmæssige.

    Som medejer i A.P. Møller-Mærsk ville jeg stille spørgsmål ved ledelsens målsætninger – men jeg tror at det måske er et selskab som alligvel ikke gider de almindelige aktionærer.

    Men hvad overholdelse med af fondsboersreglerne??
    Disse regler kraever vel, at aktiemarkedet skulle have vaeret underrettet saasnart, der var serioese forhandlinger i gang om et saa stort salg. En (uventet og ekstraordinaer) bundlinieforbedring i stoerrelsesorden DKK 17 milliarder er selv for APM-Maersk ikke i smaatingsafdelingen.
    Hvad siger Fondsboersen og Finanstilsynet ??

    Sikke noget BS til forsvar for Mærsk.

    Smedegaard skal da ikke afvise udlægninger som enhver på det nærmeste godt ved er sande, andet end en arrogant agenda om at Mærk er så suveræn at det ikke rager.

    Alle vidste godt, at det gik dårligt for dansk supermarked som havde sin storhedstid i 80′erne (og man kan undre sig over hvad den gamle enke-kone vil med det vraggods).

    Adfærden er jo udtryk for, at Mærsk finder det lettere pinligt at de ikke kunne opretholde en success, eller bare det at det må sælge noget fra.

    Voherre bevares, et privilgeret selskab der overlevede på at snylte på befolkningens olierigdomme.

    Aflever nøglerne til oliekilderne Bessefar og tag dit rædselsfulde mausoleum med dig.

    At du/I tolkede at Maersk var klar til at sælge DS må jo indebære at Du/I har vidst at der var “en anden, bedre ejer” af DS end Maersk. Du/I har jo med andre ord været klogere og mere forudseende end Maersk. Du/I har måske hele tiden vidst at det var Salling fondene der var “den anden bedre ejer”. I så fald kunne jeg godt tænke mig at vide hvordan du/I vidste det.

    Hej Jeppe,
    Vi tolkede alene udfra det som Nils Smedegaard sagde til Berlingske Business Magasin. Her afviste han direkte, at aktierne i Danske Bank var til salg, men sagde, at der var øvrige selskaber, som kunne blive solgt, hvis den rigtige ejer dukkede op.
    Hidtil har han afvist, at Dansk Supermarked og Danske Bank kunne sælges. Det nye var, at kun Danske Bank var fredet.
    Derfor kunne vi skrive, at Mærsk var klar til at sælge Dansk Supermarked. Vi skrev ikke, at Mærsk havde sat Dansk Supermarked til salg.
    Det nye var med andre ord, at Dansk Supermarked kunne blive solgt, hvis den rigtige ejer dukkede op.
    Vi havde ingen viden om den transaktion, der nu er gennemført.

    Hej Claus. Læser man hele artiklen er jeg enig i at der ikke er noget misvisende i det. Læser man overskriften i sig selv er den om ikke misvisende, så i det mindste nem at misforstå. Så kan man jo diskutere om det er rigtigt eller forkert at dømme en artikel alene ud fra dens overskrift.

    Som læser af B.dk f¢ler jeg for f¢rste gang trang til at skrive en kommentar. Jeg har længe været af den opfattelse at journalister skal begrænse sig til at rapportere hændelser og nyheder så korrekt og objektivt som muligt. De skal med andre ord være reportere mere end meningsdannere og samfundspåvirkere. Mange af dagens journalister ser åbenbart det sidste som mindst lige så vigtigt som det f¢rste. Det gælder dog også for journalister, at de er forpligtet til at levere korrekte oplysninger.
    I dette tilfælde fortolker du en samtale ikke alene på hvad der er sagt, men også på hvad der ikke er sagt. At tidligere tidligere udtalelser nævner Danske Bank sammen med Dansk Supermarked retfærdigg¢r på ingen måde din konklusion. Du fremhæver Dansk Supermarked frem for alle de andre aktiver som måske kan blive afhændet, hvis omstændighederne og tiden er rigtige for det.
    Hvorfor g¢r du det?
    Det er korrekt at din artikel er misvisende. At Mærsk skulle have reageret efter at have haft artiklen til gennemlæsning er også korrekt, men det ændre ikke ved at misvisningerne starter med dig.

    Kære Knud,
    Det er nu ikke en helt korrekt udlægning. Journalister skal registrere forandringer, og når en topchef pludselig ændrer signal, er det vores opgave at fange det. Hidtil har Mærsk Gruppen kategorisk afvist at sælge Dansk Supermarked. Det nye i interviewet var, at kun et salg af Danske Bank blev kategorisk afvist.

    Sagen er, at artiklen og citatet fra Smedegaard var korrekt.

    Når Mærsk Gruppen i denne uge sælger aktierne i Dansk Supermarked, kan en artikel, som fortæller, at Mærsk Gruppen er klar til at sælge Dansk Supermarked objektivt set ikke være misvisende.

    Det er det, vi har fået dokumentation for i denne uge, og derfor burde Mærsk Gruppen ikke have kaldt vores artikler misvisende, når vi netop har leveret korrekte informationer.
